Tom Wesselmann (February 23, 1931, Cincinnati - December 17, 2004) was an American pop artist who specialized in found art collages.
“Tom Wesselmann died in New York on 17 December 2004. His choice of trivial motifs, their monumentalisation, reduction to stereotypes, sexual emblematic as well as the use of bright colors made Tom Wesselmann a co-founder of the American Pop-Art during the 1960s.” (Art Directory)

I picked Tom Wesselmann to pair my photo with to tonight because of the Pop quality of his works and in this case many of his works focusing on stylized glamour, which he turns into a kind of sexual icon, much like my Marilyn Monroe. He is probably best remembered for his series “The Great American Nude” which turned the female nude into a Pop art icon. His use of large-scale images, flattened paint and graphic style transformed his subjects into symbolic stereotypes. My photo has some of the same qualities as found in some of Wesselmann’s female paintings. This photo was taken at a large outdoor antique market and I was attracted to it as a Pop image. Here are some Wesselmann paintings:
