War of the worlds.

I’m stepping out of the realm of art history tonight, and referencing a great writer known as the father of Science fiction literature H.G. Wells. When I first looked at my photo my thoughts were it reminds me of a robot or some alien invader. (Juvenile yes, odd, well um, you decide?) Seeing that kind of thing in this image brought me to think of H.G. Wells and his novel, “The War of the Worlds.” It’s been many years since I first read that book. Since the novels first publication in 1898, (I wasn’t around then) it’s been made into every form and media imaginable. It’s been made into movies, books, plays, and even provoked the great and notable Halloween scare done by Orson Wells in a 1938 radio broadcast. I really have no doubt that H. G. Wells has also had a great influence on the visual arts in the twentieth century as well. Wells is considered the father of modern social science fiction -- that sub-genre dealing with the effects of technology upon mankind and civilization. But his works are more than mere science fiction -- they are outstanding examples of literature.

The War of the Worlds (1898) is a science fiction novel by H. G. Wells.
It describes the experiences of an unnamed narrator who travels through the suburbs of London as England is invaded by Martians. It is one of the earliest stories that detail a conflict between mankind and an alien race.

It does have that menacing air of some impersonal thing observing ........ Nice work!
