Twice each year in the spring and fall the Amish in the Central region of Pennsylvania come together with the public to hold an event that is intended to raise money for the “Beaver Run” Amish school. The event draws hundreds of Amish families and many farmers and the general public. There are numerous simultaneous auctions running from sunrise to late in the afternoon. The auctions run a wide range of goods from Amish made furniture to farm equipment, plants and animals and of course hand made Quilts. There is much general merchandise including antiques and household items. It is a potpourri of an event. The Amish also sell homemade food like Chicken Barbecue and ice cream. It is a wonderful time. I have been attending for almost six years and have marveled at this fascinating culture. My photos are an attempt to shed light on there gentle and unique people. I have made friends with some families and that has enabled me to document this event. I hope you enjoy these photos.
