Technically cheating here... not taken in 2010 at all...
... but I did process them in the early hours of the 1st of January 2010
A bar in one of the many "sublanes" off of Pontocho laneway
Kyoto, Japan
I don't know how one "finds" these bars... most are tiny, many have no obvious name (in Kanji or Romaji)
....and they seem to appear and disappear like HG Well's "Magic Shop"
or Pratchett''s Tabernae Vagrantes
" Skillet, Wang, Yrxle!yt, Bunglestiff, Cwmlad and Patel.
Estblshd Various.
PURVEYORS"
or like Fritz Leiber's shop in .... or... OK yeh, so you get the idea?
Add to this most places in Kyoto (or almost any other place in Japan) don't have street numbers....
or even names for anything other than main roads)
and now you start to understand why EVERY shop, hotel, bar, pub, club, etc etc
hands out fliers or includes on their web site a map with at least one
main road intersection and a railway station for reference.
