Birding at Brigantine, NJ

Second expedition with the "Focus on Birds" class headed by world expert bird watcher Thomas Southerland, Jr.

Brigantine (now offically, the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge) is a very expansive ( more than 40,000 acres) locale situated at the New Jersey Shore and boasts a large variety of species. The main trail (Wildlife Drive) is over 8 miles long, indicative of size of the area (see the Google satellite image at the end of the gallery). It is also indicative of how distant a lot of the sightings are, too far, at least for good photographs. Fortunately, some good photo ops presented themselves, and patient processing on the computer mitigated this to a large extent.

Tom recorded that we sighted 46 species, far more that at Sandy Hook. So it was very successful. To boot, we again had very pleasant weather and as usual a very fun group.
