No, I'm not in jail. We provide security doors, frames, windows, locks and detention equipment for jails and prisons. I've been to so many jails in the past 27 years it's hard to keep track. As a rule, you can't take photos in an occupied jail or prison. You can't photograph imates (now referred to as 'wards')
The images I will be adding to this new gallery include new and old jails that have yet to be occupied or have been vacanted.
There is nothing glamorous about serving a life in jail and that is not the purpose of this gallery.
The first seven images however would make you think otherwise. This new jail is extremely nice, well lit and comfortable...that is, if you like sharing your 7 x 8 cell with another inmate. Their 'dayroom' has tables for checkers, cards, games, whatever and there's indoor rec yard for basketball or handball. Probably a lot nicer than most schools have nowadays.
It really doesn't get any nicer than this. Believe me, I've seen some facilities you wouldn't send your diseased dog to.
Sadly enough, its just a matter of days or weeks after this facility is occupied that everything in the cells are scratched up, defaced, dehumanized, broken or stuffed with toilet paper to make it non-functional. Dogs have more respect for their quarters in most cases.
Mark - Amazing images and insight into our jails. This is indeed a fairly handsome looking establishment. Just amazing how easily we can sink into depravity, particularly when dealing with a commons like jails, streets, parks, air, water, mountains, lakes. Jail is wherever your selfish asserts itself, but this is definitely hell on earth. Thanks for sharing these.
