Zoomer, our greyhound, was born on January 18th, 2000. I first saw him when he was
8 weeks old, and adopted him one week later. He was born from racing stock at the
now defunct Geneva Lakes Track in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. His litter came from an
accidental breeding, so they couldn't register the litter to race. Normally, these
greyhound puppies would never be available for ordinary pets. But I was one of
the fortunate few who got one of them.

Zoomer has been with me thru some of the most difficult years of my life.
Through several moves, we have been each other's constant companions.
But in late summer of 2008, just 6 months after I got married, Zoomer
began having problems running on his right rear leg. At first I thought
he had just injured a muscle or connective tissue from slipping while running.
But after he didn't show signs of recovery, on October 20, 2008 my wife and I
went to see the vet. And an x-ray confirmed what I had quietly feared:
bone cancer.
