On August 19, 1942, Men of The Royal Regiment of Canada came ashore here and died on this beach. This view is from approximately where a landing craft would have discharged it's complement of soldiers, near high tide. Walking up from the waters edge in peacetime at high tide is difficult, an attempt at low tide, under fire, would be extremely difficult. Some of the members of the Regiment reached the sea-wall, a very small group reached the heights to the left. Most died before the sea-wall was reached. No Man is forgotten.
