A few weeks ago (8/31/13), I went 'sissy camping'. It seems like what I used to call sissy camping is now just camping (or 'Car camping'), and what I used to do many years ago is now called 'backcountry camping'. Well, I have talked about it with my wife for years, so I decided to take a solo hike and over-night camping trip on the Appalachian Trail. I did a 4-mile hike to from Rt 55 near Pawling NY, around Nuclear Lake, to the Telephone Pioneer shelter, then doubled back some, camped off-trail (not at the shelter, it was crowded), and hiked out the next day. All in all, it was extremely challenging with the pack and my typical rate of speed. I was exhausted, but in the end it was really a good trip.
