Located in Normandy, the castle of Eu is a building built between the sixteenth and seventeenth century.
The current building was built according to the will of Henri de Guise and Catherine de Clèves, then finished by the Grande Mademoiselle, first cousin of King Louis XIV. The Eu castle now houses the town hall of Eu, as well as the Louis Philippe museum labeled Museum of France.
It consists of a main building extended by a pavilion at each end. The whole is built in brick and stone for a very harmonious aspect. Former residence of Louis-Philippe, who received Queen Victoria, it was renovated in the second half of the nineteenth century on the orders of Viollet-le-Duc. The museum houses several memorabilia of the Orléans family, and in particular the fully reconstructed Guise Gallery, which serves as a backdrop for more than 140 portraits representing characters related to the castle's history.
