St-Ourss church is remarkable because it possesses the most beautiful and best-preserved polychrome roman gate in Touraine : it dates from the 12th century and represents a ě bestiaireî, that is to say animals - real or fantastical - symbolizing Good and Evil. The last arch represents seven female characters who symbolize the 7 ěliberalî arts, that is to say, the trivium and the quadrivium, the bases of religious teaching in the Middle-Ages ( grammar, rhetorics, dialectics / geometry, arithmetics, astronomy and music ).
