Scritch, scritch...
What do they wish they were doing instead?

The Floor Remembers

It seems a shame
To see this wood
Be shaved away
Like useless rot
For in its time
Its has seen
So very many
Faces, furniture, and feet
For the floor remembers.

All these years
It’s sat so still
Supporting all
Who walk its grounds
And it has seen
And heard and felt
The very lives of those upon it
For the floor remembers.
