Early Morning on Gibney BeachThis was taken from the beach right outside the cottage where I stayed. This was my proof that the water really IS as blue and clear as they say it is. |
Fred, my Cottage-mateThis guy showed up within minutes of getting to the cottage. I thought he looked like a Fred, so his name stuck. He was with me the whole time. He got some necessary vet care and some good food. I got a promise from the folks who own the place that they'll take care of him; I'm hoping for the best. |
Gibney Beach CottageThe cottage on the beach. Small and very charming. |
Cottage GuardFred keeping guard...of course. |
Trunk Bay BeachOne of the most popular and beautiful beaches on St. John. They have an underwater snorkel trail, where I went snorkeling for the first time. St. Thomas is in the background. |
Trunk Bay OverlookOverlooking Trunk Bay... |
Island DonkeysLots of donkeys on St. John. I was lucky enough to catch a mother and child wandering around together one afternoon. |
Sunset Over Gibney BeachThe first storm while I was there... |
Inside the CottageAside from a small bathroom and kitchen, this is about all there was to the cottage. |
From Bordeaux MountainThe highest point on St. John. |
Red LeavesI have no idea what kind of tree this is, but the leaves are gorgeous. |
Green LeavesLike the red leaves, I don't know what these are, but the color was eye catching... |
Cinnamon Bay Sugar PlantationRuins from an old sugar plantation. |
Cinnamon Bay Sugar Plantation #2 |
MillipedeThese guys were crawling all over the sugar plantation. A plaque states that they secrete some stuff that can cause temporary blindness but is also used as a toothache remedy. |
Oppenheimer Beach HouseNot a terribly interesting place, but it has some history to it. The Gibney's sold part of their beach to Robert Oppenheimer (the hydrogen bomb guy) back in the 50s, and this is where he and his family used to vacation. It's now a recreation house that can be rented for parties. |
Sky CircleStorms created this circle in the sky two nights in a row... |
