The big five and other south african mammals

The classic definition of the "Big Five" African game animals is based on the danger these animals pose to hunters. The five are: lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros. These were picked by hunters as the most dangerous to hunt on foot. Interestingly, the Hippopotamus is responsible for more human fatalities each year than most of the members of the Big Five. I was only privileged to photograph the elephant, Cape buffalo and rhinoceros plus the footprint (spore) of the lion and a cheetah as substitute for the leopard.
