I met a Salish weaver who wore a hat similar to this hat. She would wind her hair up beneath and so keep it neatly out of the way while weaving. I do not know if this is a Salish hat that this woman wears but it too keeps the hair neat and clean. I could not believe the wide variety and uniqueness of attire and wonderful and varied colour. The richness of colour alone was a "feel good" aspect of this powwow.
