This crucifix at the entry of lugubrious, even though deeply evocative, Steen castle was there on purpose to allow the prisoners to utter the last prayers.
I suddenly think of Erasmus, who was born not too far from this area and of what he called as the greatest folly in his “Moriae Encomium” – “The Praise of Folly”.
But it’s not the most suitable time for philosophy, when one is overwhelmed by very simple and strictly human, material wish, as a warm dry shelter, and a beer…
