Piazza Carlo Alberto is one of the main squares, fully pedestrian, of the historic center of Turin.
The place is named after the King of Sardinia, Carlo Alberto of Savoy, son of Carlo Emanuele of Savoy-Carignan, whose family owned the building, the facade of which can be seen on one side of the Piazza Carlo Alberto. It is located where once was the gardens inside the imposing Baroque building designed by Guarino Guarini.Directly opposite there were the stables building which now houses the prestigious headquarters of the National Library. The area was reorganized by breaking down the walls , giving rise to the square between 1842 and 1859 .
On the south side of the square stands the eighteenth century Palazzo Campana , which now houses the university 's Department of Mathematics.
On the opposite side of Palazzo Carignano and the equestrian statue of Charles Albert, stands the magnificent building that today houses the National Library of Turin.
