We left, temporarily, the old medieval streets to discover a different kind of architecture in town.
This is the monumental Town Hall, which was built after the big fire of 1720, which had destroyed a great part of the ancient wooden houses.
Do you see the empty niche?
Once there was a statue of King Louis XV there, but it was pulled down during the Revolution, later they tried to put there an allegoric statue of Bretagne - represented by Queen Anne de Bretagne- joining France as faithful subject, but it seems that some proud nationalists of Bretagne didn’t like it…
Well to make a long story shorter they decided at the end to leave the niche empty!
We preferred to ignore all nationalistic diatribes, but I can only tell you that we had a nice lunch in this square.
