I think this is surely one of the unluckiest churches! It’s dedicated to the St. Saviour and definitely it should have had been saved a little more...
Let me mention quickly all its vicissitudes and misfortunes:
The Church was built in 12th century by monks of the island of Aix.
But in 1419 it was ravaged by a big fire and then rebuilt.
In 1568 the church was destroyed by protestant during the period of religious war.
The church was rebuilt once again and was finished in 1669.
Guess what... in 1705 another fire burnt the church to ashes and only the portal was spared.
With admirable perseverance, the church was rebuilt once again in 1718.
In 1792 (during the French Revolution) it was transformed in warehouse and it was destined to religious function only in 1802.
In this present century it already needed to be restored and had to undergo a long series of works; it was reopened only two years ago.
I wonder how long it will last....
