Robinson’s Cruise
Serge Robinson, a very sedentary and peaceful man,
accepts to take a cruise on a modern big boat to please his wife.
After three days aboard, two captain’s dinners with the waiters who serve waving napkins over their head and singing “ O sole mio”,
a show in the boat theatre with the Illusionist who cuts in half a giggling elderly lady
and three bored Ukrainian girls who pretend to be Argentinean tango dancers,
a night of dances with the small Orchestra performing Frank Sinatra’s Hits
and all the passengers dancing in line according to the order
of an enthusiastic entertainer with a glittering red dinner jacket,
when his wife and all the other passengers run toward the great night buffet
to gulp down slices of pizza,
Mr Robinson silently steals a life boat and leaves the ship.
He lands on a small desert island and he sees with relief the cruise boat disappearing over the horizon.
His wife realizes his absence only five days later at the end of the cruise.
Mr. Robinson alone in his island is happy.
