Left crops, shadows up +50
These crops are for showing the shadow recovery for the 3 sensors. I simply applied Shadow/Highlight recovery in PS6 beta in normal mode at 50% Shadows and 0% Highlights.
You can clearly see thayt despite the D800 is better than the 5D2, none of them can touch the "old" M9 CCD.
The M9 is quite noisy at higher ISOs (over 640) but at low ISOs the shadows are amazingly clean and full of detail.
2oo% crops, shadows up +50
200% crops again for showing the shadow recovery for the 3 sensors.
Same Shadow/Highlight recovery in PS6 beta (50% Shadows).

FillLight +80 in ACR
Same previous comparison at 200% but I applied +80 fill light in ACR instead of shadows recovery in PS.
Results are clearly better for the two japanese brands, now there are much less black clipping, although I'd still give the first prize to Leica.
Testing dynamic range
Raw converted at default settings. Left 5Dmk2, right D800
Testing dynamic range +100 Fill Light
Raw converted with +100 Fill Light in ACR. Left 5Dmk2, right D800
Fill Light 100 - crop
100% crops (+ 100 Fill Light in ACR). Left 5Dmk2, right D800.
Please don't judge sharpness here as I shot these handheld without Live View.
D800 is clearly better in the shadows.
Fill Light 100 - crop2
100% crops (+ 100 Fill Light in ACR). Left 5Dmk2, right D800.

Couldn't do better, sorry...
Yeah, my testing methodology somewhat lacked but I prefer sticking with a half stop overexposure to the risk of my little girl crying wake-up! Hope you understand...:)
