The wood is given the name "Ambrosia" for the beetle of the same name, which bores small holes in the fallen tree and "plants" Ambrosia fungus. The beetle lives off the fungus, not the wood. The fungus causes staining of the wood, so is similar but not identical to spalting, which is also present.
This is local wood, turned while quite green. It was actually slinging blue stained water during the turning!
The bowl is finish turned and sanded while green, then put away in several layers of craft paper to slow the drying. This allows the wood to move without cracking.
