St. Johann Nepomuk (Asamkirche) Rococo Church München
St. Johann Nepomuk church is better known under the
name of its donator Egid Quirin Asam. Built in the
early 18th century.
Together with his brother - the painter and architect
Cosmas Damian - he created a masterpiece of sumptuous
Rococo. Although the brothers decided to build at
their own expense they had to open their church to
the public.
This is a tiny church , a mere 8.8 metres wide and
28.8 metres long, and this photo shows the entire
width of the church. What it cannot show is the
upper gallery which rises up another equally
ornate floor to an extravagantly lavishly
decorated ceiling.
I was very lucky to get this shot. I was there
in the afternoon of a very dark rainy day. It
was far too dim inside the church to read. I shot
this long exposure with a wide angle lens using a
mini tripod that could not support my camera with
the wide angle lens. Out of 9 exposures only
this one was crisp enough.
