Note unique flower and long green bracts on erect stem. Yellow flower (ray) petals (rounded tips) with green narrow sharp tipped bracts which are much longer than petals. Yellow anthers on black filaments. Flowers generally open in the morning and close by noon/ late afternoon. Leaves are narrow, sharp tipped (grass like) and clasping. Note grey color of seed pods. Grows in disturbed areas, coastal bluffs, shrub-steppes.
