WTU and The Jepson Manual gives 2 varieties:
var. pilosum: hairy stem, white flowers with yellow throat. (Jepson states that this variety is <10 cm tall but I found them the same size as var. pulcherrimum or 20-30 cm tall.
var. pulcherrimum: smaller (10-20 cm) form of P. californicum, Grows alpine, dry, rocky locations. Found on both sides of Cascades generally adjacent to trees.
