Platanthera dilatata

Common Name: Scentbottle, White Rein Orchid, Bog Candle, Boreal Bog Orchid

USDA and ITIS lists three varieties based on the relative length of the nectar spur and shape:

var. albiflora: Scentbottle; found throughout the Aleutian Islands southward into the Rocky Mountains. White spur (club-shaped) shorter than lip to almost equal to lip.

var. dilatata: Scentbottle; found throughout much of northern NA and is considered the typical variety. Spur is slender, greenish and about equal to lip.

var. leucostachys: Sierra bog orchid; Slender, white spur strongly curved and markedly exceeding lip (labellum)(1.5x). Genererally restricted to the Pacific Northwest from British Columbia deep into California.
