var. compositum: found in WA, OR, CA, ID (mostly OR, north CA, east South Cascades) Involucres sparsely to densely lanate (i.e., hairy).
var. lancifolium: found in WA (Chelan, Kittitas, Okanogan, and Yakima Counties) Leaf blades lanceolate, ovate to deltoid.
var. leianthum: found in WA, OR, ID (eastern WA and Wallawas) Involucres glabrous or weakly glandular-puberulent (i.e., not hairy or very lite)
Note clump of large basal heartshape to arrow shape (lanceolate, ovate to deltoid) leaves with tall erect flower stem. Flat to slightly rounded cluster of white to cream (with some purple) flowers.
