Very interesting species with two concepts for how to classify them. Cronquist who studied most of them in the field split them into two subspecies with three varieties each based on petal color, wet or dry habitat, leaf shape and number of basal leaves. Recently they were combined into basically one species based on bract shape and texture. Whatever they are called they are common subalpine daisy-type flowers found in a wide variety of habitats.
Note white to white-purplish petals, few basal leaves, dense short hairs on lance shaped stem leaves.
