USDA lists one variety (var. aureus), but ITIS which showed two varieties no longer lists any.
Note single large yellow composite flower, mostly green in center, (flower head is variable in size and shape of ray flowers and to some degree disk flowers) on a single moderately white-hairy stem with mostly oblong to round basal leaves. Found at high elevations in open rocky areas.
