Jesus Meets His Blessed Mother

Mary remembers the words of Simeon upon the presentation of the child Jesus in the Temple:
"This child is destined to be the downfall and the rise of many in Israel, a sign that will be opposed. And you yourself shall be pierced with a sword, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be laid bare."

My Jesus, it was a great sorrow to realize that Your pain caused Mary so much grief. As Redeemer, You wanted her to share in Your pain for mankind. When You glanced at each other in unutterable suffering, Mary shared in your martyrdom.
