I agree, the desaturated, muted look works wonderfully here... matches the emotion conveyed and the natural look of the lighting. I would guess that the natural colors and light were desaturated in look already... the window looks dark, the lighting therefore subdued...
You have to be very careful, Manny, when you use desaturated color. The technique must enhances the point you are trying to make. Too many photoraphers on pbase use desaturation as an affectation, a gimmick, a stylistic device that calls attention to itself for its own sake. However in this shot, you use desaturation to extend meaning. It seems to pull the vitality right out of the image and replace it with melancholy. And that is what you are trying to get across here. Pain, almost sadness. A longing for release. A exquisite match of form and content, Manny.
