Bodie is a California Ghost Town in the Eastern Sierra near the Nevada border.
Gold mining brought its birth in 1859, said at one time to be the largest town
in California. It had numerous saloons, many brothels, and enough gunfights to
account for the average murder rate of one a day. A fire destroyed most of the
original town. What is left is maintained by the Park Service in a "state of
arrested decay".
