The deserted village

I pass these old cottages every day and sadly they are getting more neglected year by year.

I remember seeing these cottages in some past posts. I think they're quaint/ Its sad that they're falling into disrepair. V

somehow seems a waste as they seem substantial enough...the gentle play of light animates the scene so well..

Such a shame, they look lovely.

I’m sure they’d make great homes if renovated. V.

To lose them would be such a tragedy...

Ah, I remember these places; you've shot them before.

This is quite bizarre; only a couple of weeks ago I saw a YouTube video from The Grauniad about homelessness in Ireland stemming from the still undigested events of 2008. The woman who was the focus of the story had to move out after her landlord was forced to sell up by creditors, though their former home was still empty for some reason. According to the story about 9,700 people were being put up in hotels (which they have to renew every two weeks via an hour or so on the phone) because there was inadequate public housing stock, and the private rental market is none too flash either notwithstanding massive increases in the last 5 years. The minister was interviewed and said that they can't put up houses overnight, which is true... but I'll bet that like in Australia there are plenty of places like these that could be renovated to a livable condition in much quicker time.

What a pity as they look like they might have been nice once upon a time. Great light for this fine capture. V.

What a charming shot. There is something very nostalgic about old buildings. Too bad these are not being cared for. V
