Window on the past

I love these ornate metal barriers which protect many of the windows
of older houses in Dundalk.
I'm not sure if it's true, but I recall my mother saying they were to protect the windows from being broken in the days when cattle would have been herded through the town to the market.
This is the last remaining house on the street where I work.

What your mother said sounds reasonable to me. It’s lovely lace work and I hope it’s preserved

Great capture of this barrier and window. I can see where that might be true because that wouldn't keep out a burglar. V.

I also love these window barriers, so ornately pretty. I like the story of why they came to be and hope it is true! Fine shot. V
