Cottage roses

It's back to typical Irish summer weather - overcast, showery and humid.
Couldn't resist a shot of these roses growing in Ballymascanlon village on my way home from work this evening.

And that people appreciate the beauty of roses, but I am a little surprised that the owners would allow that much overgrowth of the door opening by a bush known as much for its thorns as its petals. And the overgrowth is on the side of the door opposite the hinges, so I'm wondering if someone has walked into a face full of thorns more than once.
