Closed up shop

This closed up shop is in a part of town that I don't often visit, although I do remember it being opened when I did a story there several years ago.
Like most photographers, I'm drawn to a bit of decay and I also like the sign-writing above the shop as it incorporates traditional Irish fonts.

A moody image that makes me a little sad. A lovely store front with the sign, colors and shapes. V

Yes, I noticed the font before I read the description. The following day's photo notwithstanding I do wonder if we'll have any of these single shopfront stores left in 15, 20 years time as the older shopowners wind down into retirement and the newer generation doesn't want to be working 12 to 15 hours a day for marginal returns.

Shame it's closed. I too love seeing this style of writing. v

I hope the owners simply retired after getting rich from their little business!

Was it a butchers shop? We had some similar looking shops in our suburbs many years ago... v

small businesses lose out here to large discount stores...variety is sacrificed, and jobs too...local colour, appropriately blue here, is sacrificed as well....

I love its vintage look with the sign and the tiles. I always think it sad to lose these old businesses. V.

I agree that a bit of decay (or even a lot) adds so much visual interest. I find this a beautiful image and definitely enhanced by the writing with its traditional fonts. V

I like it for the same reasons you took the picture - the sign and the way it is getting run down. I'd equally like to think that one day someone will come along and restore it.

Shame to see another business gone.
