Today I had to decide whether Toffee is mostly orange (ouch, we prefer marmalade in this house) or white.
Despite all the white fur on display in t his photo, I reckoned he's less than 50% white.
And why was I talking about the colour of Toffee's fur?
The Irish Times carried a link to a citizen research survey being carried out by Trinity College Dublin on cat coat genetics.
Not that I need an excuse to take a photo of Toffee.

I can relate to your question. I've often wondered the same about our Finn who has similar coloring. He seems to have the dog-like personality of the orange tabby and yet he has the homebody, timid qualities of the white cats. From what I've seen, your Toffy is more outgoing and tabby-ish than Finn. Great portrait of him today! :) V

The colour of Lucy's coat is "tabby but irrelevant". The presence of Lucy's coat (or former parts of it) is "pretty much everywhere within a 2km radius and, via the travel luggage, everywhere from Hobart in Tasmania to Margaret River in WA". Toffee seems lost in his own world here. Probably one in which fish treats figure prominently and there is no Lab to annoy him.
