Urban fishing

The river which runs close to our office is something of a haven for urban wildlife.
Mallard ducks and moorhen can be found there and today I saw this heron doing a spot of fishing.
Unfortunately a 17mm pancake lens isn't recommended for wildlife photography so this is heavily cropped.

Pretty shot. Like Walter said, it's how we usually see a heron and I think it makes it more authentic.

Ignore the lens it captures the moment and scene beautifully.

Even carrying 3 cameras you can bet on me not having the correct lens on when needed 😥

Nice find, we have lots of Heron's but they're much harder to approach then urban ones.

I have now seen paradise ~V~

no shortage of growth here...a heron fishing speaks well for the health of the river..

I hope he was as successful as you were!

Great to see Herons in locations like this. v

Just shows what can be seen in an urban area if you look and if you are lucky. v

This shot has come out very well given the constraints of the lens and it is frequently said "the best camera is the one you have with you!" Walter makes a good point regarding environment too. V
Walter Otto Koenig22-May-2014 22:07
Very nice perspective and framing. It's nice to see a photo of a Heron in its (in this case unusual) environment, rather than the usual close up. "V"

An enchanting image, and I like the way the pretty river and the heron, are framed by the vegetation. V

It looks really nice for a heavily cropped image and I can see the heron. What a peaceful scene in an urban area. V.

Nice, well-cropped image. Pretty green framing too!
