St Brigid's Day

This straw cross is made in honour of St Brigid, an Irish saint born at Faughart in North Louth, not far from where I live.
Her feast day, February 1st, was traditionally regarded as the first day of Spring.
This year it was anything but Spring-like as Storm Brigid battered the Irish coast, causing extensive flooding in many areas.

I read about that, though not so much about the effect on Ireland as the UK. (I have some friends over there at the moment, and saw one photo of a wall of water battering seaside buildings in Wales. Great photo, bad reality.)
This is a nice texture shot. Dumping the colour helps to bring that out a bit more as well.
