Sunny respite

A few hours of sunshine provided a welcome respite from the wind and rain which has
dominated our weather in recent days. Stopped on the way home at lunchtime to
take this pic of Mount Oliver, now a nursing home for nuns, it was once the home of
the acclaimed engineer John MacNeill.

Wonderful composition Mairead!!! :)
This reminds me of Southfork Ranch, Dallas (well, actually Plano), Texas where the Ewing family lived during the filming of the TV series, Dallas.

It's a bit of an optical illusion, but I like the way the branches and leaves at the top seem to "sweep" into the frame. They work to frame the house. These "under tree, into the open" shots can be a bit of a bear because the shadows are quite pronounced under the canopy; a little less so in more gentle Irish light, certainly it's a big problem in the harsh Australian light. But in this case you wouldn't have wanted to expose any more to pick up that detail, or you'd lose the perfect exposure of the background. More dynamic range is of course only a matter of waiting for a few more models and shelling out a few thousand more on camera gear...
