Farewell Patch

We have heavy hearts today as we said farewell to Patch.
A boisterous, irrepressible, mischievous Dalmatian, he was
part of our family for almost 12 years. We were his third
owners in less than a year but he soon settled into his new
home, despite displaying an obsession with chewing everything
which came within grasping distance of his jaws. But he
was gentle with our son when he was little and the two
would play happily in the garden.
In recent years Patch suffered from an arthritis-like
condition but thanks to the good care which he received
from the vets he enjoyed a few extra years.
He hasn't featured much in my Pbase galleries as he was
mostly in pictures with my son which are not public.
This one was taken just two weeks ago when he still
enjoyed going for a walk.
Oiche mhaith Patch a chara.

12 years is a good long life for a dog. He really was fortunate to have a good home with you. Always sad to lose a friend and companion though. I hope your son isn't too sad about it.

One thing that is never easy is the loss of a faithful friend, especially one that grows up with your children. Patch has the look of a much loved pet...

I'm so sorry for you, Mairead, I can imagine the pain of the loss, it is so sad.
This is a lovely tribute and he was lucky to have had a family who loved him.

Mairead I'm so terribly sorry at the loss of your beloeved boy Patch, he looked so handsome and was obviously a much loved gentle part of your family. I know how bad it feels to lose a pet, I still grieve for my Ziggy 4 months on.
I send my love to you and your Joe & Sean.
I'm so sorry
xx

It's tough when a pet dies...I still have my uni Degree dissertation from 1984, chewed, torn and vandalised into unreadability by my long-since departed mutt...

So sorry Mairead, how kind you were to give him a comfortable home for his last months. A lovely shot of him. No such thing as just a dog.

My sympathy. Losing beloved pets is so hard. He looks like a lovely boy.

This is the saddest news in the world. It's nice to see from the comments how many people understand. A lot of us have been through this and sympathize with you.

I am so sorry to hear about Patch. I know how it feels to lose a dog, a friend, a member of the family. But it sounds as if he had found just the right family and a very happy 12 years with you - and you with him.

I am really, really sorry to hear about your dog, Patch. I know what it is like to lose a dog, it is painful. May you retain sweet memories forever. I hope Patch is somewhere over that Rainbow Bridge chewing to his heart's content.

What a wonderful portrait of this faithful friend. I'm sorry for your loss. I still have a wooden handled brush that has the end chewed off from my last dog.

I´m so sorry for your loss, Mairead! It´so hard to lose them, no matter how much mischief they were up to.
My kitchen chairs still have the puppy teethmarks from my first dog,a yellow lab named Töpseli. I take them as a nice memory of a loved friend, she might have been the hungriest dog ever but I always smile whem I´m looking on those chewmarks... My first own dog. She was my companion for almost 13 years.

I'm really sorry for your loss. But at least you had 12 years with him; that's a better than average span for larger dogs. That's a very good memorial shot.
