Gateway to a secret garden

Secret gardens have given writers lots of imaginative scope.
They are also very beguiling for those of us with cameras.
We long to know what’s on the other side of the gate.
We take pictures of their entrances,
and ponder why the possible delights behind the gate are denied us.
We do the best we can with what we can see, but still we wonder…

Wonderful depiction of the old in the arch, the very modern, in the gate.

It’s because we tend to imagine that what we have not must be better than what we have and it’s easier to imagine that an unknown place might have the qualities we miss in our reality.
But I think the elegant and sober stone arch, which you have captures so well in this accurate photo is already an achieved goal.

This is a very beautiful rendition of this gate. Love the "peaceful" colors, shapes and textures. Interesting thoughts. V

There's a cruelty about secret gardens, the suspense is painful.

That's when we whack on a 200mm telephoto and stop down to f/16.
Although in this case the ancient-style stone archway which is becoming entwined with nature through the vines makes for a more than satisfactory subject anyway, even if you can see little of what's behind it.

I think this is a most beguiling image. And I so completely agree with your words. Through the gate, we think, must like a garden like no other. VV
