More likely this one is from a wine drinker (or maybe a fishhook aid?)- only a minority
of Aussies in the real outback wear akubras with corks dangling down on threads
to keep off the bush flies.

Despite what David thinks I've never seen an Australian wear corks on their hat...however the tourists buy them :>))
