Glasnevin on a sunny day in May

Today for the first time I visited Glasnevin Cemetery. The cemetery reflects many facets of the history of Ireland and many of our founding fathers are buried there side by side with citizens of Dublin.

It is regarded as Ireland's National Cemetery since its opening in 1832, and the graves of many famous people like Daniel O'Connell, Charles Stewart Parnell, Eamon DeValera, James Larkin, Maud Gonne MacBride, Countess Markievicz, Ann Devlin, Brendan Behan, Michael Collins and many other graves of interest form the basis of a walking tour.

We didn't take a tour as there was none on during our visit, but we wandered there for an hour or so, and it was sad to see that there were many graves neglected and forgotten.

This album tries to give a flavour of the great and the ordinary, the remembered and the forgotten.
