During the week I spent in Suisse Romande I made a very enjoyable day trip to Yvoire,
a medieval town on the French shores of Lac Léman. During the middle ages, its strategic
position on the lake afforded it a strong military role, but in later times it became a home
for farmers and fishermen.
Important evidence of the past has been excellently preserved : the castle, ramparts and fortified gateways, ditches and houses.Evidence of careful restoration is clear, with a strong sense of respect its heritage.
Its little town houses have beautiful balconies; there are artisan workshops that give local artists and craftsmen opportunities to display and sell their work, and the church of Saint Pancrace with its distinctive tower is visible from many various points in the town.
