Les Voltigeurs de Québec At Sackets Harbor, NY 1812 Ceremony
Members of Les Voltigeurs de Québec, both active and veterans and members of the Voltigeurs canadiens re-enactment troop, participated at the unveiling of two monuments at the Sackets Harbor battlefield in the state of New York on Saturday, August 3, 2013. The ceremonies were witnessed by a multitude of War of 1812 re-enactors, American, Canadian and British dignitaries and the general public.
One of the monuments was dedicated to British and Canadian soldiers who lost their lives during the attack on the harbor on May 28, 1813. The names of the soldiers are inscribed on the monument and include the names of two Voltigeurs canadiens.
The second monument, erected by the Province of New Brunswick, is dedicated to the 104th Regiment of Foot who participated in the attack. This Regiment was raised in New Brunswick.
Thanks and Bravo Zulu to our American cousins on who's land these two monuments are erected and commemorated.
It's not every day that a country partakes in the dedication of an enemy's (at the time) monument.
