This young Snowy chose a rather thin branch to perch on. A good choice, because the Snowy perched successfully.

Canon EOS 5D Mark III @ 1/100, f11, ISO 400 without exposure compensation. Handheld with my superb 500L f4 lens. The camera and heavy lens held by a one-point sling, just like a military rifle.

Although the camera and lens are heavy, shooting handheld gives me a much better leeway photographing birds in flight as opposed to having the gear on a tripod.
