Merv Jones, Canadian D-Day Para Vet Hosted by A Coy (Para) 3R22R

1st Canadian Parachute Battalion's D-Day vet Merv Jones was hosted by A Company (Parachute) 3rd Battalion, Royal 22nd Regiment on Friday, June 6, 2003 at Base Valcartier's drop zone. Jones is the only surviving member of his unit in the Quebec City region who parachuted into Normandy at about 1 a.m. on D-Day. The 107 paratroopers of A Company, aircrew of 438 Squadron and other invited paratrooper vets and military personell had the opportunity to meet and honour Jones in the field during a day of unit training. A solemn ceremony was held in memory of paratroopers who gave their lives on D-Day. A Company (Parachute) is slated to delpoy to Afghanistan in the near future.
