Art Fair On The Square041.jpg

This artist's home away from home for a couple days, and who knows how long traveling.
Some people live on the road most of the summer. Some couples actually do two shows on a weekend.

Sorry it's been so long since I came back around checking...
There's a nice little town called "Helen" not too far from Atlanta which is the higher areas of Ga. It's geared toward the art/music scene, staying open all year. There's so really great shops, with many clubs I played in for awhile. Always had a great time, and enjoyed browsing. One small shop had a few glass blowers, and it was difficult to get inside. I think having a shop would be much easier than driving so much. Use to be difficult playing 5 gigs in 3 states over the weekend, with big amps too. Wears a person out, no matter what type work on the road. Loved it, but wouldn't want to go back through it now. With cost of living now, bet a lot of people stop doing such things.
Great gallery, and well photographed. Thanks, wonderful way to get out of the house tonight without putting up with the crowd. :-)

Thanks Tom
Yeah at this level some of these artists average 5,000 to 10,000 a show. It's hard to maintain this level though...the really good shows are very hard to get juried into...and that's what this game is all about...getting into the good ones. Some travel a lot. Talked to one a while back...put 150,000 miles on a van in 2 years...those guys did OK though in a partnership as glass artists. When they'd run out of stuff, they'd actually fly it in to the next show, so you knew they were doing OK ;-)

Yeah.. a local friend sets up booths at many of the flea markets selling antiques, and "what have you" around town. The rest of the time is spent going to garage sales looking for stuff. Makes pretty good, but I'm not sure how it would break down into hourly. Tough way to make a living.
