Yukon River " Whitehorse to Eagle Alaska"

These photos are from my 2003 kayak trip the Yukon from Whitehorse to Eagle Alaska. I love the people I met on my way down 564 miles of mostly wild river country. Much of the old " Klodike Lore" still lives in the old building and the people. ( Took all these photos with my little Olympus 300 Stylus whichwas 3.2 megpixels , ( not bad in the 2003 ) and it did a fairly good job. It was a water res. model to boot and will make a decent 8 by 10 print,,

Hi Monte, very interesting pictures! I have done exactly the same tour in 1982 and made slides at that time. But I was most astonished how little actually has changed! Some of my pictures are quite similar to yours. You must have enjoyed that trip a lot. I did so back then. Cheers Hubert

I can't help but comment again on your pictures. They are so interesting and the photography is beautiful. Again, the descriptions of each picture help make them more interesting.

Hey Monte, It's 4th of July, I'm sitting here looking through your Alaska trip... I remember so well helping you paint that shark face on your kayak ... I had not realized that the kayak later burned up in a fire! How sad. I remeber when you took me in it and tried to teach me to paddle, on some river full of vegetation in West Olympia .. take care, Monte, we will go shoot a ghost town one day. Missy Wood

Fantastic pictures. I spent 5 weeks on the yukon canoeing the same route when I was 15yrs.old. I was able to retrace exact places and moments as seen through your lens. I remember them all well and especially my time in Dawson(gambling and can-can dancers) doesn't get any better. And yes that Klondike lore. Had you been introduced to the sour toe drink? (A salted toe dropped in a drink)This to become a true Yukoner along with killing a bear(with your hands),pissing in the Yukon, and bedding a beautiful native? Cheers!

Monte, thanks for sharing your talent and pictures. I live in North Idaho, but spent 2 winters in Alaska, One in Anchorage working as a mechanic and one in North Pole hauling pipe north to the oil fields. I thought thr valley from Coldfoot to Atigun Pass was one of the most impressive in my life. I have a thought of taking a trip to Eagle, life is kicking my ass right now and Eagle has an interest. I made a trip up to Great Slave Lake to see Duncan Pride 20 years ago but he had left, the last I read about him was in Nome or Barrow. Have you read his book Nunaga, good read.
